Would you like some fruit?

Here it is, my long awaited, first attempt at 3DStudio Max. In this lesson i learned all the basic commands to navigate my way though 3DStudio Max.

Once I mastered how to navigate the menu's and wow there are a lot of them in 3dstudio max. It was a very simple task to do.

I learned how to create and modify simple objects like rectangles, spheres cylinders etc. and convert them into an editable poly so I could manipulate these objects fairly easily by just selecting a few polygons and move them along any one of the three axis, by selecting the vertices or poly’s and extruding them into various positions I was able to create the natural shape of the apples.

Copying the apples was a simple task too; by just selecting "clone" from the "right click" context menu I was able to produce 3 of the same apples. Then it was just a task of rotating them into a nice position.

The bananas were made from just a rectangle, the next step was to select “bend” from the modifier list under the object tab, then by adjusting the variables either bending the banana along the x, y or z axis. To get the smooth object I added a smooth mesh modifier by using the same method.

The grapes came from just a single sphere cloned about 20 times moved into the right position by using all four of the viewports and grouped together so that the 20 objects became 1 object, The stem was a small thin rectangle extruded multiple times to get lots of editable poly’s so I could extrude them too; along a different direction to create a branching effect.

Finally the plate was a large cylinder place under all of the objects to give the effect they were sitting on something.

Above all this was a simple, easy and creative lesson that taught me some shortcuts to navigate effectively though 3Dstudio Max, The lesson taught me about the view ports, how to move rotate and scale objects, manipulate and clone objects and texture or color them too.
